Three Volcanoes. One Perfect Cup.
Antigua Guatemala is one of the most celebrated coffee origins on earth — a UNESCO World Heritage city ringed by three active volcanoes whose eruptions have deposited centuries of mineral-rich ash into the surrounding valley, creating one of the most extraordinary agricultural soils in the world. The volcanic loam of Antigua is deep, fertile, and uniquely structured — and the coffee grown in it carries that terroir in every cup. Add the region's unique microclimate — cool nights, warm days, low humidity, and the natural irrigation provided by the surrounding mountains — and you have the conditions for producing coffee of genuine, world-class complexity.
Dark chocolate depth. Bright, vivid fruit. Butterscotch sweetness. This is Antigua — and there is nowhere else on earth quite like it.
What's Inside
-
Four Heritage Varieties — Single-Origin Antigua Arabica:
- Bourbon — the crown jewel of Antigua's coffee heritage; one of the world's most celebrated heirloom Arabica varieties, Bourbon has been grown in Guatemala's highlands for over a century and thrives in Antigua's volcanic loam terroir. It contributes a rich, naturally sweet complexity, a full rounded body, and the wine-like fruit character that makes Antigua coffee so distinctive and sought-after by specialty roasters worldwide
- Catuai — a productive Mundo Novo × Caturra hybrid that adds clean sweetness, consistent quality, and a bright, lively acidity that keeps the cup vibrant and balanced
- Caturra — a natural Bourbon mutation prized for its bright, clean sweetness and consistent quality at high altitudes; adds a lively citrus brightness that complements the Bourbon's depth beautifully
- Typica — the oldest and most historically significant Arabica variety in the world; contributes a clean, elegant sweetness, a silky body, and the refined classic coffee character that provides the structural backbone of the blend
- Fully Washed Processing — coffee cherries are pulped, fermented to remove the mucilage, and washed clean in fresh water — a meticulous process that produces the crystal-clear clarity and clean fruit expression that allows Antigua's extraordinary terroir to speak directly through the cup without interference
- Sun Dried — after washing, beans are dried slowly under the Antiguan sun, allowing the natural warmth and the cool highland air of the valley to bring the beans to perfect moisture content while preserving their delicate fruit and chocolate complexity
Origin Details
- 🌍 Grower: Smallholder farmers from Antigua — family farmers working the volcanic slopes and valley floor of the Antigua basin, many of them cultivating the same plots that their grandparents farmed, using traditional methods that have produced exceptional coffee for generations
- 📍 Region: Antigua Guatemala — a UNESCO World Heritage city and one of the world's most iconic coffee origins, surrounded by the volcanoes Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. The Antigua valley's unique combination of volcanic soil, altitude, cool microclimate, and low humidity creates conditions for coffee of extraordinary complexity and consistency — recognized globally as one of the benchmark origins of specialty coffee
- ⛰️ Altitude: 1,200–1,616 meters above sea level — the highland elevation of the Antigua valley slows cherry development and concentrates the natural sugars and aromatic compounds that give this coffee its distinctive dark chocolate depth and bright fruit complexity
- 🪨 Soil: Volcanic Loam — the defining characteristic of Antigua coffee; centuries of volcanic ash deposits from the surrounding volcanoes have created a deep, mineral-rich, exceptionally fertile loam that provides the unique terroir foundation for Antigua's world-famous flavor profile. No other soil type in the world produces quite the same cup.
- 💧 Process: Fully Washed & Sun Dried — the gold standard for clarity and clean expression of Antigua's extraordinary volcanic terroir
Tasting Profile
- 🍫 Dark Chocolate — rich, bittersweet, and deeply satisfying; the volcanic loam terroir and Bourbon variety expressing their most indulgent character
- 🍊 Bright Fruit — vivid, lively, and complex; stone fruit, citrus, and a hint of red berry that adds vibrancy and makes every sip genuinely exciting
- 🍮 Butterscotch Sweetness — warm, caramel-like, and deeply satisfying; the natural sweetness of the highland Arabica expressing itself in the most indulgent way
- 🌊 Full, Rounded Body — substantial and velvety, with the smooth, satisfying texture of well-processed volcanic terroir Arabica
- ✨ Long, Complex Finish — the dark chocolate and butterscotch notes lingering beautifully, with the bright fruit adding a lively, evolving complexity as the cup cools
Roast & Brew
- Roast Level: Medium
- Best For: Pour-over, drip, and French press — brewing methods that highlight the full complexity of the dark chocolate, fruit, and butterscotch character; also exceptional as espresso where the volcanic terroir depth becomes intensely concentrated, and outstanding as cold brew where the chocolate and butterscotch notes become deeply rich and the fruit adds a refreshing brightness
- Pro Tip: Antigua is one of the most versatile and universally loved single-origins in the world — approachable enough for everyday drinking, complex enough to reward careful attention. Try it black first to experience the full volcanic terroir character before adding milk.
Available in Whole Bean, Coarse, Standard, and Espresso Grind — in 12oz, 1 LB, 2 LB, 5 LB, and 12 LB sizes. From the shadow of three volcanoes to your cup — dark, bright, and utterly magnificent.
